Research / Notes / Observations
My Top 10 from 2020 would be 100% different. As would yours. Isn’t that what makes this whole thing tons of fun? !!
I immediately took to (so easy on the ears) Douha Mali Mali. My simple tastes and weakness for House Music. Désolé quickly became another fav. And then I kind of went nuts about this Fatoumata Diawara. Just wow! I think this is David’s most enduring gift from his collection. There is an amazing video below – a long-form concert which will inspire you for sure. Here is a link to her site: Fatoumata Diawara.
It took a minute, but then I loved Future Toyi Toyi – brought me back to my African Music class at the University of Michigan, um, back in 1985 or so.
I was touched by What’ve I Done to Help and Mr. Landlord. I need to keep working on Joji – but I want to, given what I have read about this huge personality. Phoebe Bridgers eludes me for now. I likely just need to hear more. I am sure she will be able to deal with that.
After watching the video (below) of IDLES at Tiny Desk I want to learn a LOT more about these guys.
