PINK PANTHERESS (S6 | E286)
OBSESSION!!!! The pop, drum and bass, jungle sensation… THE PINK PANTHERESS!
PinkPantheress is an English singer, songwriter, and record producer who rapidly ascended to global stardom in 2021 after her self-produced tracks went viral on TikTok. Known for her distinctive “bedroom pop” sound that blends 1990s and 2000s UK garage, drum and bass, and alt-pop, she frequently layers her soft, melancholic vocals over nostalgic, fast-paced samples to create bite-sized, catchy tracks. Her unique sonic identity earned her the prestigious BBC Sound of 2022 award and propelled her to massive mainstream success, most notably with the Billboard-charting smash hit “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” featuring Ice Spice. Despite her sudden rise to fame, the half-English, half-Kenyan artist has maintained a relatively private personal life while continuing to heavily influence the modern landscape of internet-driven, Y2K-inspired pop music.
VICTORIA’S STORY
Born Victoria Beverley Walker in Bath, Somerset, and raised in Kent, PinkPantheress’s musical journey began during her childhood with piano lessons and a stint as the lead singer of a teenage rock band.
Around the age of 17, she started producing instrumentals on GarageBand, initially making beats to help out a friend. While studying film at the University of the Arts London, she continued to privately produce her own music in her bedroom, eventually deciding to post her sample-heavy tracks to TikTok.
Her songs went viral on the platform in early 2021, prompting her to drop out of university and sign a major record deal that officially launched her global music career.
