80’s Social Commentary Music with Rick Vescio (E23)

The angst, energy…. and rage of the 80’s. This collection of music, curated by Rick Vescio, touches on themes that you may have missed during years that some would call vapid, lackadaisical, spoiled – even if you lived through them. You may have missed Punk and Post- Punk bands and music by listening to Bananarama, and the Go-Go’s (love them both by the way). 80’s Social Commentary Music on LTNF.

Curious as to what I am talking about? Good. You’re going to love the insights and analysis that Rick provides in this episode. This is part 1 of a two part series on protest, social commentary, and high power music from the 80’s.

Ann Arbor (A2) in the 1980’s

I was always young for my age. The fact that I got into Michigan was a minor miracle. I eeeeked in and took my sweet and very nerve-wracking time finding my groove. Freshman year was a blur and incredibly stressful. But by sophomore year and my first year in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house I sort of began a “college career.”

Joining ATO was a big deal for me. It gave me identity, instant friends and a social network that I was just never going to find on my own. Good move. And that’s where I met some truly remarkable people including Rick.
