The Marías are an American indie pop band from Los Angeles, California. They are known for performing songs in both English and Spanish, as well as infusing their music with elements like jazz percussion, guitar riffs, smoke-velvet vocals, and hornsolos.

Their core lineup consists of lead vocalist María Zardoya and drummer/producer Josh Conway, guitarist Jesse Perlman, and keyboardist Edward James.

Sitting in the Poetica Cafe on St. Marks Place on a steamy summer Wednesday afternoon.. Working (sort of) and awaiting the end of Adelaide’s JiuJitsu class… and chatting with a bunch of fellow New Yorkers. I bring up this new love, The Marias… and a lovely young kid says what about Men I Trust. And someone else volunteers Alice Phoebe Lou…. é voilá we have this week’s show.
The Marías’ sophomore album, Submarine, is a captivating exploration of heartbreak, isolation, and the complexities of human emotion. Released in May 2024, the album has garnered positive reviews for its dreamy soundscapes, evocative lyrics, and the band’s signature blend of indie pop and R&B.
