Women have played a pivotal role in the music industry throughout history, but their contributions have often been overshadowed or undervalued. From classical composers to rock and roll pioneers, women have continuously pushed boundaries and challenged societal norms.
The mid-20th century marked a significant turning point for women in music, with the emergence of rock and roll. While many women faced challenges breaking into the male-dominated industry, artists like Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner became icons, paving the way for future generations.
In recent decades, the music industry has become more diverse and inclusive, with women artists from various backgrounds making significant contributions. From Beyoncé and Taylor Swift to Cardi B and Lizzo, female musicians are dominating charts and breaking records.
Taylor Watkins, on this and subsequent episodes, chose to champion women in music with intelligent and insightful musical selections. Oftentimes his choices come from his personal experience with the artist. It is always a great pleasure to have Taylor on the show. and this time is no exception.
In fact we get a “peak under the tent” on new music from Taylor as he shares a demo of an upcoming release, “Time Heals Everything.” What a pleasure (and an honor!!!) to hear new music from Watkins on the show.

ADRIANNE LENKER
Adrianne Elizabeth Lenker is an American musician. She is the lead vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter of the band Big Thief, as well as an established solo artist.
Lenker wrote her first song at the age of eight, and recorded her first album at age 13. Her other interests included studying martial arts, and she was the state karate champion three years in a row.
