Robert Glasper at the Blue Note (E48)
Sam, Mitch, Malissa, Brian, Eitan, Running Lady, and Don’t Know Her Name Lady. We were Table #1 at the Blue Note on Thursday night to see Robert Glasper. Raucus. Inspired. Non-stop chatter – strangers (mostly) in anticipation of a night of innovative music.
Only a few of us had any idea what to expect. And we left the show afterward puzzling over how to categorize it. Progressive Jazz? Hip Hop? Some fusion of styles. For sure.
DJ Jahi Sundance
In the middle of the action was a MacBook Pro on a stand with an amazing DJ at the helm. We had drum (Chris “Daddy” Dave ), bass (Derrick Hodge), lead guitar, and keyboard (Glasper)

The Blue Note
…is a jazz club and restaurant located at 131 West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village, New York City. The club was opened on September 30, 1981, by owner and founder Danny Bensusan, with the Nat Adderley Quintet being the featured performers for the night.
The club’s performance schedule features shows every evening at 8:00 pm and 10:30 pm and a Sunday jazz brunch with performances at 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm. The venue has also started a bi-weekly Late Night Groove Series giving New York’s up-and-coming jazz, soul, hip-hop, R&B and funk artists an opportunity to showcase their talents on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 12:30 am.
Today, New York City’s Blue Note Jazz Club announces the return of multi-Grammy Award-winning artist Robert Glasper to the Blue Note stage for a stacked “Robtober” Fall residency. From October 1 to November 7, Glasper will perform a total of 66 shows across 33 nights, including Halloween weekend. The run of shows continues Blue Note’s historic 40th anniversary festivities.

A PLAYLIST NOTE – Robert Glasper at the Blue Note (E48)
You may have a “Blue Note” nearby… called something else. Some jazz venue where you can see innovation, improvisation, magic. The thing about these jazz places is that you get to meet, hang out with, speak with the artists before and after the show. Where else can you meet with musical luminaries so easily? I am hooked and plan on making a jazz pilgramidge monthly going forward with our new “Jazz Club”… um… club.
Super!!!
