THE WHEEL SESSIONS
Now in its eighth year of presenting concerts, 109 sessions to date, The Wheel Sessions has established itself as the premier location for hearing great jazz in the Upstate (SC). Its musicians regularly represent a wide radius, extending to Charlotte, Asheville, Atlanta, and Charleston. Semi-annual special event concerts feature international artists – Jon Faddis, Ignacio Berroa, and James Carter, Jorge Garcia, Marc Black, Louis Hayes, and Etienne Charles.
This week we speak with Kevin Korschgen, the creator of a Greenville, South Carolina jazz highlight, The Wheel Sessions. We hear music from the artists performing this year including Terreon Gully, Pat Bianchi and Herlin Riley. Plus a bonus. For jazz fans get to know 15 year old guitarist Ronnie Elliott. We hear a gorgeous version of “Just Friends” with Phil Wilkinson.
Terreon Gully
Terreon Deautri Gully, known professionally as Terreon Gully, is a renowned American drummer born on December 28, 1972, in East St. Louis, Illinois. He is celebrated for his versatility and mastery across multiple genres, including jazz, funk, fusion, Afro-Cuban, big band, drum and bass, rhythm and blues, hip hop, pop, and gospel.
Herlin Riley
Herlin Riley is an acclaimed American jazz drummer, percussionist, and composer, born on February 15, 1957, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is celebrated for his mastery of rhythm and his contributions to jazz, deeply rooted in the musical traditions of New Orleans.
Pat Bianchi
Pat Bianchi is a Grammy-nominated jazz organist renowned for his mastery of the Hammond B3 organ and his innovative approach to jazz. Born in Rochester, New York, into a musically gifted family, he began playing organ at age 7 and performed professionally by age 11. He studied piano and music theory at the Eastman School of Music and later graduated from Berklee College of Musi
